Vintage Coca Cola Porcelain SIGN & BASE Two Sided and Huge = 30" Wide x 65" Tall. Description: We just removed this piece from storage from a Rhode Island Estate. We have not cleaned it or wiped it off in any way. It is exactly as we found it.
Size: The round sign measures 30 Across. The entire piece is about 65 tall.
I have seen this type described as a "LOLLIPOP SIGN" or "STOP SIGN" sty l e. Weight: It is VERY heavy (over 100lbs+). I can not lift it / move it alone without a hand-truck. Condition: In my opinion, this sign seems to be one of the best ones available on the net. It does have all the types of wear (scratches, mild dents, rust, bullet marks, etc) as sociated with these vintage 1930s - 1940s era signs, including (2) holes that go all the way through the metal (and that look like bullet holes) along the lower edge just above the rivets.
There are some other spots that look like they are bullet marks, but they do not go all the way through. This sign is also very sturdy and heavy and solid.
PLEASE SEE PICTURES: The pics are meant to serve as the Primary Description. We made sure we provided bright, clear and in-focus pictures. S&H: We offer Free Local Pick-up. You or your representative can come here to Wakefield Rhode Island and pick it up.
Alternatively, we have a UPS Store about 15 minutes away. We are able to transport the sign to the UPS Store. I do not know how much it will cost. The dimensions are above in the listing and my zip is 02879.
The Contact info for the UPS store located about 15 minutes away from me is. UPS STORE 91 Point Judith Rd. History: In my opinion , this piece is Pre WWII, possible late 1930s or early 1940s. We are not certain which model this is or exactly when it was mode. Based on similar listings and research on the Web, there are very similar signs that are identified as having been made in the late 1930s.
As with the rest of popular culture, Coca-Cola signs changed with the times. For example, the frames of Coca-Cola signs exhibit distinctively Art Deco. While the signs themselves often feature mirrored or reverse-painted black glass. In fact, despite the Depression, the 1930s were a big decade for Coca-Cola signagein 1934 alone, for example, the company offered 28 different styles of signs to its retailers, plus four versions designed just for coolers.
Saw the arrival of a new Betty on Coca-Cola signs, but new metal signs were put on hold due to the needs of World War II. Untold numbers of porcelain signs were scrapped for the war effort, which, of course, has led to their current scarcity and popularity among collectors.
After the war, porcelain signa ge fell out of favor for less-expensive alternatives such as aluminum and eventually plastic. Source: Collector's Weekly dot com. NEW Pics ADDED BELOW: We noticed some small yellow writing on the lower edge of the Sign.
